We require direction and guidance at every stage of our lives. We have our parents, friends, spouses, and relatives as our guides and wellwishers, however, ultimately we follow the voice that comes from within, from our spirit. To recognize our inner voice and follow the path that is truly made for us, we have to look inwards and do what truly matters to us. This is not easy to do and it takes a lot of practice, patience, and stability to reach where you want to. But, to begin with, we can look at spirituality as a source of happiness that matters to our spirit. A sense of fulfillment beyond materialistic happiness.

Below are 5 habits that you can practice daily

  1. Begin your day with a positive affirmation/ prayer or happy thought

The start of our day is very important. If we start it on a good note we set a positive rhythm for the rest of the day. As soon as you open your eyes in the morning, look at something that is very dear to you. It could be the plants in your garden or a prayer written in your diary or a set of affirmations you want to read in the morning. You could also meditate for a few minutes and steady your mind for the rest of the day. Practicing any form of mindfulness in the morning hours is extremely beneficial and instills in you a sense of gratitude, responsibility and peace.

  1. Take a Walk Alone

When you take a walk, your mind and body get a sense of refreshment. You are able to think better and erase all unnecessary ideas and thoughts.  We often find solutions for problems, when we think of them in isolation, and the best time to find solutions is when you are taking a walk alone. If you live in a city or town that is close to a beach, then try walking by the beach or else go to the nearest park or garden and introspect. A spiritual practice need not always involve a series of rituals, it could also include doing an activity like walking in a very conscious manner. Realizing about the self is a spiritual practice.

  1. Divide Your Day and Take Breaks

It might look like one day, but it is actually 24 hours or 1440 minutes. There is actually a lot of time. It is important to realize this. Since there is enough time, divide your tasks in such a way that you get adequate breaks. The only way to increase your productivity at work is by increasing the number of small breaks. In these breaks, you can quickly meditate for 5 mins or pray for a little while or listen to some relaxing music or you could even take a quick stroll around your office. These breaks give you rest and help you get back to work. These small spiritual habits can relieve the day-to-day stress that otherwise keeps getting accumulated and over time causes serious mental and physical health issues.

  1. I am grateful for_____

Fill this sentence every day in a journal. Gratitude attracts more positive experiences and more progress. When you realize how grateful you are for all that you have been gifted with, you will be able to get over all your inner enemies like anger, ego, greed, jealousy, etc. Gratitude is a very powerful emotion, if practiced regularly, it will set you on a spiritual path. You can be grateful for the smallest of things, there is no big or small when it comes to gratitude. The feeling of gratitude transcends all these definitions.

  1. Find out more about spirituality

We live in a world that runs on technology. Online streaming platforms, blogs, media, books, etc give you a lot of information on spirituality. They give you an idea of different spiritual thoughts, leaders, and practices. Many vlogs on the internet give you a sneak peek into a spiritual person’s journey. Your interest will open up multiple opportunities. See, read and find out. You’ll then be able to recognize what you are drawn towards. If a certain spiritual philosophy interests you then take a step ahead and embrace it. This way you’ll be able to progress in your spiritual journey. This process is lengthy and time taking, you’ll have to do a little bit everyday. Eventually, with patience and faith, you will find your spiritual community.

Spiritual habits are a part of your day-to-day lifestyle. These habits will not be of much benefit if practiced once in a while. On the contrary, regular practice can benefit your mind and body tremendously and can rapidly increase your spiritual progress.
