Do You Have A Plan?

Planning is so essential in our life. Right from our first birthday to our schooling, work, retirement, old age, we tend to plan every phase of our lives. For most of it, planning is great. It keeps you prepared for the challenges ahead and also relieves you of the possible stress.

Hence, one shouldn’t leave any stone unturned and make it a point as much as one can.

Planning is very important and keeps problems at bay. But, what about the sudden turning points in life that bring in sudden joy and merriment, we didn’t plan any of them did we?

What does this say about planning? This leads us to our first point.

  • Everything cannot be planned

In life, as much as we can we should organise the events of our life. But, we all know not everything happens the way we wish it to happen. Hence what matters more is preparation. Preparation should precede and lead planning, planning is secondary and preparation is primary. Hence, as individuals living in a fast paced world, we must be smart and sensible and take out time and ensure that we focus on skills that will keep us prepared for planned and unplanned events.

  • Have open ended plans

Many like to be organised and plan it all. If you are one of those people, then you know the benefits of planning. A small suggestion here is to have plans that are open ended, plans that are flexible and not too rigid. Rigid plans become an obsession and the focus slowly moves away from the purpose of the plan to the rigidity and toughness which should not be the case. A certain percentage of your plan should be left empty and should take into consideration the sudden changes.

  • Your plan should encompass practical aspects

Your plan should be made taking into consideration the practicalities and realities of life. It should not be too hypothetical or far fetched from reality. For example let’s assume that your financial income is limited, then would it be wise to take more loans and buy gadgets? No, right. That would be wrong planning to do. Which will only lead you to future misery. Hence, do not take wrong decisions that will knowingly lead you to failure. Practicality and pragmatism are utmost important while making a plan.

  • Action should follow the plan, merely writing a plan is a futile exercise

What is the point of a plan if you do not make it happen. We practically plan it so that we can implement it with ease. Hence, everytime you plan something, make it happen. Work out your routine so that your plan is executed. Take the help you need, let your family know that you are dedicating your time for a certain thing and that you seek their cooperation for the same.

  • Assess the outcomes of your plan

Make your efforts to assess the outcomes of your plan. A plan has to be assessed formatively and summatively. A formative assessment is when you assess your actions while you are following it and summative assessment is when you assess the success rate of your plan after you are done with the plan. If your plan has been successful, then you could take the experience into account and make more plans for you to live your life with more effectiveness. Hence, evaluating your plan is as significant as making your plan. This gives you insights on what can or cannot be done for your future.

  • Do not follow plans blindly

What fits somebody else need not fit you, what fits you need not fit anybody else. Plans are unique and are curated as per individual needs and priorities which are inevitably different for everybody. Hence, while you can take inspiration from others, it is not fine to follow something blindly just because it worked for somebody else. This can lead to a disaster, it can harm the present state of affairs and can deteriorate the situation instead of enhancing the situation.

  • Inspiration and ambition

Why do we make a plan? To bring in change in our lives right? And change will happen if you are ambitious and inspired to do something in life. Hence, make your effort and look for the right inspiration and be ambitious about your decisions in your life.

Planning is a habit and habits can be developed with time and if not inculcated can also be lost. Hence, people who look upto planning have a smooth lifestyle. Furthermore, flexibility in planning is more important than planning and preparedness is the most important.
